What Can We Create

One of the most enriching experiences as a teacher is the amount of learning that has happened over the years. The more one learns, the more it becomes imperative to keep abreast with the happenings, lest you be left out!

The recurring theme across the past decade or so has been one of trying to create an uncontested market place. A position for yourself, where you are the front-runner with a thought, an idea, a product or a solution no one thought of before. While examples galore in the global scenario, in India they have been few and far between. Is it any surprise then, that we in India are still prone to fighting the price war and making the water in the red ocean murkier by the day?

It is not the subject of this article to remind us of the Blue Oceans that HAVE been created by us, rather what is it that we lack or aspire for that limits our success. It is some sort of a “glass ceiling”, we are so used to hearing about albeit in an entirely different context.

Are we limited by resources? I would dare not think so today. Are we limited by exposure? Even that thought is redundant in today’s Global Village scenario. Is it about our thinking then? May be even this one is incorrect!

Let us look at all walks of life from within our country. We are yet to tackle the larger issues of literacy, population and employment.

So where is it that we stand in terms of creating uncontested market space?

Another question follows – whether what we create is what the world appreciates and wants. The closest Blue Ocean we could create which found instant acceptance by all who matter was the Indian Premier League.

In a much smaller fashion and perhaps closer to author’s personal experience is being a part of the team involved in creation of a Business School that works with the Industry and creates a bespoke curriculum and fulfills the need for jobs matching with an employee’s skill sets, who gets trained and interns with the specific company, before joining as a full time employee!

As the author of this piece, I wish to leave you with one recurring thought – what can we create?
